Behind The Name

Kia ora, I'm Fin. I'm the guy behind Ellen Ave. 

Real quick, I'm a New Zealand athlete who plays touch football and I'm obsessed with it.

I'm also obsessed with business and the idea of figuring out how to play 'the game' and win at it... making money in lots of cool ways with lots of cool businesses is a goal of mine. I've tried my hand at a couple of things, from flipping ice blocks at 10x the price to bundling household goods, but I'm currently looking for the next 'thing'. 

The name

You might be wondering what the name is. Ellen Ave is the place where it all began - my first flat (apartment) at university where my mates and I had lots of wild parties, late night study sessions, netflix binges, worked part time jobs, and created businesses.

One of the ideas I had while living at Ellen Ave was podcasting. My old boss said I should try have coffee with someone once a week to learn from them. They could be older, more experienced, or simply have a different viewpoint to me - but the idea was to create connection and learn from another's experiences.

The logic was that I would be exposed to much more than my own ways of thinking, allowing me to open my mind and learn exponentially through others lives and ways of thinking too. This was what he dubbed, and I later used, as 'Collective Wisdom' (the name of my little mastermind group). 

I've always loved creating content and trying things out - and podcasting came on my radar as a way to have a fun, but deeper conversation through media as opposed to 7 second dance trends (lol). It was an excuse to do everything my boss encouraged me to do and more, so I went for it. 

After my first ever podcast (which I recorded on the voice memo app on my phone) I didn't know what to call it. 

But as I played it back in my car, it came up as "Ellen Ave" (my phone save files by the location name) and I knew then and there it was MEANT to be. 

and boom. Ellen Ave was born.

Anyways. It’s been amazing to grow my network and connect on a deeper level through conversations with all of the guests. I’ve learnt a lot from them along the way! I’ve enjoyed upskilling myself, trying something new, and will definitely continue this wee project and build it.
